Ok, So You’re Going To Hire A Moving Company…

But what are you going to do during the big move? Even though you’ve cut out the stressful parts by hiring Kansas City Metro Moving to do all the hard work, you may still find that moving is an emotional event.  Here is some advice we can offer from our many years of experience in this business…

Be Prepared!

Most of the stress on moving day comes from being unprepared. Allow yourself plenty of time to pack everything up in advance… but keep out the coffee pot. Trust us… you’ll need it! If you’ve hired our moving company to do all the packing for you, then take a deep breath and try to avoid the temptation to micr0-manage. Just assume that everything we’ve done is for good reason and see how quickly and efficiently we can move!

Say Goodbye!

Before we arrive, consider having a goodbye party or barbecue at your house. It’s not like you really need another excuse to party, but it could help you mentally focus on closing one chapter of your life and beginning a new one. Take one last photo on moving day to remember all the great times you had there.

Move The Kids First!

Nothing can be more harrying on moving day than kids getting into everything and unpacking boxes before you’ve seen what they’re into. Even the most well-meaning children have a tendency to get underfoot during a move. Ideally, you will find a friend or family member’s house for them to stay at for the day. If this is not feasible, try to give them tasks and important jobs to keep them out of the way.

Hang Onto Valuables!

Many a heart palpitation has come from someone suddenly wondering, “Where is great-grandmother’s wedding ring?” Or “Which one of these boxes has my passport in it?” Pack one box containing important and essential valuables that you will keep with you at all times. You’ll be able to relax more when you know that your most expensive possessions are on hand.

Be Ready For Day One!

Have your overnight bag packed with bed sheets, pillows, night clothes, toilet paper, toothpaste and a toothbrush. You may not feel like unpacking immediately, so it’s best that  you are at least prepared to crash when you get to your new home. Research and make a list of nearby hospitals, police departments, pizza places, and other local addresses or phone numbers you might need. Plan ahead for local catered food so you won’t be a grumpy bear mid-move!
